On 16 January 2019 Memorial Reunion was held in the University of Oxford to remember a prominent scholar of Georgian cultural heritage Tamila Mgaloblishvili.

On 16 January 2019 Memorial Reunion was held in the University of Oxford to remember a prominent scholar of Georgian cultural heritage Tamila Mgaloblishvili. The event was orginised by Professor Jenny Richardson with support of the Embassy of Georgia and Lia Chokoshvili, Georgian language tutor at the University of Oxford.

After her opening remarks Professor Richardson handed over to the ambassador of Georgia Tamar Beruchashvili who welcomed the audience at the remembrance evening and talked about the role of Professor Tamila Mgaloblishvili in researching and promoting Georgian Christian culture. Ambassador also read a letter by the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili addressing the orginisers and participants of the memorial event. Through her letter the President of Georgia shared her own respect and appreciation towards Tamila Mgaloblishvili and her invaluable legacy.

Professor Sebastian Brock and journalist and editor Bruce Clark spoke about their personal experience of working with Tamila Mgaloblishvili. Her works alongside her friendly relations with Georgian and international professionals were emphasized and appreciated by all speakers.

At the end of the event, Lasha Otkhmezuri, historian and Tamila Mgaloblishvili’s son symbolically presented several books to Richard Ovenden, librarian of the Bodley’s Library. This is a small part of Tamila Mgaloblishvi’s large collection which will be transferred to the Library at a later stage and be permanently kept there. Richard Ovenden underlined huge importance of this donation which will further encourage scientific research on Georgia.
