British Airways Launches Direct Flights Between London and Tbilisi
Direct air travel between Georgia and the United Kingdom has officially commenced, as British Airways operated its inaugural flight to Tbilisi International Airport on March 31. The Airbus A320 aircraft arrived in Tbilisi with 156 passengers on board, marking a new chapter in bilateral connectivity.
British Airways will operate regular direct flights on the London–Tbilisi–London route four times a week, significantly enhancing travel convenience for passengers between the two capital cities.
In addition to the direct connection, British Airways’ close partnership with American Airlines enables passengers to access a wide network of connecting flights via London to various destinations across the United States.
Founded 50 years ago, British Airways has over a century of aviation heritage and is one of the most recognized global airline brands. It is a founding member of the global airline alliance Oneworld, alongside American Airlines. Oneworld is the third-largest airline alliance in the world, after SkyTeam and Star Alliance. British Airways currently operates flights to over 190 destinations in more than 65 countries, with its main hub at London Heathrow Airport, one of Europe’s busiest and most important international airports.
The establishment of direct air service between Georgia and the United Kingdom follows intensive negotiations with British Airways, facilitated by United Airports of Georgia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
The arrival of another globally recognized airline brand in Georgia is expected to enhance international awareness of the country and significantly contribute to the growth of the tourism sector.
